How do you feel about children owning dogs?

How do you feel about children owning dogs?

By children, I don't mean little kids, but I mean kids who are about 10 and up.

I'm wondering because I've met people who seemed surprised that, even though I'm 13, I would rather argue with my parents about the type of dog food they're buying then the type of clothes I want and can't have. xD

I've also been told that children are to irresponsible to own dogs. Granted, some are, but not all.

Well maybe some are responsible and some aren’t but if you’re a parent that’s a pretty big gamble. Let’s say your kid turns out to not be responsible. Now you’re stuck taking care of a wild beast for the next 12-15 years.

Also, if the kid really OWNS the dog, I would assume it’s the kid who is earning money to buy the dog’s food, vet bills, toys, etc. If the parent is still paying for all of that stuff, the kid doesn’t really own the dog.
